about

Turning Over Stones is one of two tracks commissioned by Jazz South in Summer 2020. It was recorded during the Covid 19 pandemic when much of the world was experiencing sporadic lockdown situations. We recorded remotely from Bristol and the Midlands and it was mixed in Italy.

lyrics

Turning Over Stones

Your hands on the door
Your like a high diver, leaning in and getting ready to fall
And just before you do a shiver runs through you
An echo of a thought, a moment

Now you’re throwing open windows and drawing in the air
Casting out the shadows
Shaking off the whisper of a feeling
The echo of a moment

Don’t go turning over stones
Don’t go looking for trouble, don’t go looking for trouble
No, don’t go turning over stones
Don’t go digging around
You might find something that’s better not found
Don’t go turning over stones

Stop motion, on the edge
Caught in a freeze-frame, picture perfect paradigm, once again
Right back where you started, with no fire for this fight
Just an echo of a thought, a moment,

Now you’re throwing open windows and drawing in the air
Casting out the shadows
Shaking off the whisper of a feeling
The echo of a moment

Don’t go turning over stones
Don’t go looking for trouble, don’t go looking for trouble
No, don’t go turning over stones
Don’t go digging around
You might find something that’s better not found
Don’t go turning over stones
